The day I said yes...
Matt addressed Jessica one day, saying he would like to host a family cookout but she didnt take too much consideration of the event--as they did not own a grill, patio, or patio set. A few days later Matt suggested a date, and told Jessica she should request off because they were going to do it on June 19th at 5pm. Jessica was taken a bit aback, as Matt wasnt normally the type to plan a family function and she started to suspect something was up.
However, the night before they both went to the Dave Matthews Band concert and Jessica secretly asked Matt's best friend if he knew anything about a proposal. Jessica explained she had a hunch it could happen at the cookout the following day, but Nate told her "not to count on it." Matt didnt act unusual that night, or the next morning when Jessica left for work at 6:30 am so she had decided that Matt wasnt going to do it after all.
The cookout was supposed to begin at 5pm and Jess got done with rehearsal for the musical she was in at 3. However, she started feeling ill and left early. Matt had told the members of the family to get there by 3 and park their cars away from the house to surprise Jess, so when she was on her way an hour early he began to scramble. He asked her to pick him up so they could go pick up a few things for the party at the grocery store. Jess agreed, dispite not feeling well and baking in the non air-conditioned car. Matt started acting a little squirrly at the grocery store--claiming he also wanted to go to Sams club because they had "better deals" Jess wasnt exactly pleased but went along with it.
She began thinking again that maybe it was going to happen--but what was the deal? They pulled up and there were still no cars at the house?? Matt asked her to wait outside for a moment and went into the house and opened up the garage door. There he stood with both of their families. There were tons of cameras and everyone was shouting surprise.
Matt walked up to Jess and explained that they had done things a little out of order in buying the house first, but he really wanted to go back and make it right by taking that first step. He got down on one knee and pulled out the ring.. "Will you...?" Jessica started crying and shaking her head yes!
